IMPOSSIBLE

15 December 2020

Some feats are difficult, some incredible, but some are impossible. Although this was written thousands of years ago, it still holds true today. I have been fortunate, in my life, to witness countless difficult and incredible acts… but impossible… I can’t say for sure I have.

Honestly, I believe we misuse this word IMPOSSIBLE quite a bit. “That golf shot is impossible, a 4-minute mile is impossible, winning 28 Gold Medals is impossible. All of these have been accomplished, but at one time, impossible was the belief.

Ten years ago, this month, NBA player Tyreke Evans of the Kings accomplished what peopled termed an “impossible shot” by shooting a half-court Hail Mary with less than a second left in the game to upset the Grizzlies.

But was it really an impossible shot? If you Google similar feats, the results are endless. We seem to not truly grasp the concept of IMPOSSIBLE. It’s because of this mentality that I would never share with people my intentions on becoming a SEAL. I did not want to be plagued by other people’s limitations as they inform me that it’s impossible to make it through that training. REALLY? IMPOSSIBLE? Wouldn’t there be NO SEALs if it were impossible?

Today, the term Impossible is less based on an actual feat, and more based on a personal belief. If you truly want to accomplish “The Impossible,” here are some of our thoughts:

SUPPORT SYSTEM – Surround yourself with encouraging people who understand you and your goals. This is different than surrounding yourself with enablers who say what you want to hear. You don’t want to be that person on American Idol who doesn’t know they can’t sing!

FLAG THE MINEFIELD – Flagging the minefield is about identifying hazards and mitigating risks. While setting your goals, look for the obstacles that may occur, and make contingency plans to go around them.

SENSORY IMMERSION – Use all your senses to mentally rehearse and prepare for what you want to accomplish. Performance always follows focus! Focus on success and what you want to accomplish. As we always say, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. Don’t let the beliefs of others limit you. Get out there, stay focused, stay alert, and keep crushing it. Remember, the world needs HITTERS!
